He needs teeth cleaning and IM not sure if he needs an extraction but if he does it would cost me 300-700 bucks....pet insurance only pays 65 bucks overall of all costs? Are pet insurances working off quota system?
I have pet isnurance (vca), is it to much for vet to quote 700 for dental work for my dog?
VCA is a big company; their primary interest is in making money, not caring lovingly for pets.
I would go to a locallly based vet and get a second opinion.
I went to VCA in Savannah once. Their rates for services were 30 to 40% higher than good old Dr. Marley who ran his own office with 2 assistants. I would definitely shop around and I wouldn't bother with pet insurance. If they will only pay $65 of a $700 bill, he insurance is not worth the money.

Reply:I know extractions can be really expensive, especially if it involves the back molars which require a lot of work due to the size of the teeth. I checked into pet insurance but never found any that covered dental care at all.
Reply:I think it depends on the breed u have and what is covered but from what I have researched I do not see that the pet insurance weighs out. Like I have Dachshunds which are prone to back surgery and it just does not pan out. It is best to just set aside what u woudl pay a month to them in a doggy account for emergencies.
Reply:It cost $600 for my dog's annual dental cleaning in Manhattan, NYC. Veterinary Pet Insurance only covered 1/2 that amount. I received a check for $297. The total cost included all the workup tests prior to anesthsia, and dental cleaning. It's ALOT of money, but I want my 12-year-old Yorkie to have chompers when she is 18 years old.
Reply:You are being ripped off. Anesthesia is the biggest cost of a dental. That shouldn't cost any more than say 60.00 for initial then 10 for every 20-30 minutes more on gas. An extraction should be between 15 and 20 depending upon if they have to lift it out or if it comes right out. Also the size of your dog factors in because of the amount of anesthesia required. Unless your dog weighs in at 400 lbs seek a second opinion.

Reply:I know that vet expenses are climbing every year and don't know what things should cost, *but* I do know that the pet insurance companies I've looked into are *very* different when it comes to the actual amount that they will reimburse you for vet expenses.
We went with Pets Best Insurance because they work on a straight 80% of the bill after the deductible, unlike other companies I researched. I pay the extra couple of bucks a month so that I can have the lower deductible.

Reply:The $700.00 does seem a bit steep. Our vets charge around $275. That includes preanesthetic blood work, which is mandatory if the pet is over five years old. If under five, it's about $195.00. This price excludes extractions, antibiotics and/or pain meds. There are some places that actually do fillings and root canals (ours is not one of them). Are they offering any of that for that price, or do they just extract the teeth if they are decayed or broken? Have they given you an itemized estimate for their services? It would be interesting to see what could total $700.

Was a crisply chilled November morning.Blue skies loom to make for a most plesant day.I arrived at the shop just shy of 10am,as accustom.Fiddling with a fussy frozen door lock,out of nowhere,up pops this little man.I knew what he wanted.after a while you become numb to the questions,and the word NO rolls rotely off the tongue.Didn't get the chance to spout it out,he beat me to the punch.He says"hey boss got any work that i can do to earn a few bucks?haven't eaten in a day or so?.He fit the part.Third generation hand me down clothes,mis-matched shoes and a coat 3 sizes to big.Must double as a blanket,i thought to myself.Odd i mused,he doesn't have the signature of 2 day stale booz breath and half a mouth full of brown teeth.His eyes were clear,steady and spoke of hunger.With Christmas around the corner thought what the hell,and gave him 20 bucks...............

Is it okay to have periodontal work after getting porcelin veneers. My dentists says I have gum recession.....
My dentist says I should have grafting done after she puts on the veneers. Will my teeth look bad doing it this way? She has a margin on my teeth and the veneers will only go up to that margin below the recession. I'm very scared I'll be out 9,000 bucks and have an unattractive smile until I can afford the periodontal work. There is no turning back. I have the temporaries on now. Should I worry?

Is there a shelf life on crest white strips?
I discovered I had a big box of crest white strips in my basement. I bought them 2-2 1/2 yrs. ago w/out evening realizing I had them!!
I've been using them only for about 3 days now but haven't noticed a difference, not like I did back then when I used the strips. I don't recall how many I used back then to get my desired results. I was wondering if they had a shelf life and this is why my teeth aren't getting whiter, or maybe it's just that I've not used that many yet. (for about 3 days twice day I've used them).
My teeth need whitening, but really aren't "that bad", lol !!

Deep Cleaning and prices.?
I have been having problems with my teeth for the last month or so. I just had 4 teeth removed because my former dentist didn't discover that I had gum disease. Now my top gums are starting to swell and the new dentist is saying that I need a deep cleaning asap. I'm already terrified of the dentist and now I have to go through this. Any one have suggestions on how I can calm down before going to have this done? Also the cost for this is 400 bucks, a 100 for each quad. Does this sound right to anyone?

If you have 4 teeth removed due to the gum disease , you must have chronic periodontitis?! That's the reason you need deep cleaning (scaling and root planning). You can expect some discomfort, but it will probably be much less than you fear. Although about half of patients reported feeling fearful of pain before they were treated, less than 10 percent reported feeling any extreme discomfort or pain from treatment, according to a poll by the American Academy of Periodontology. So relax.. take some Tylenol before the procedure should help!
Price really depends on the dentist (location, staff, experience..). In my office, we charge $60 per quad and $240 total but then again, we don't specialize in periodontics.

Reply:$100.00 a quad is it? Whew, that is cheap! We charge $215.00 a quad, so yeah I would say that is cheap. Also, if you want to save your teeth for as long as possible, get this done. There is no cure for periodontal disease, just treatments. It wont be as bad as you think, if you get a great hygientist or dentist.

TMJ Splints. How much are they?
I know you can go to a store like wal mart and get one for like 20 bucks. Those irritate my jaw even more. I had a emergency splint made where it fit my 2 front teeth. So its a big deal the whole teeth whitening thing! And well im a big coffee drinker! and i smoke socially! And well they arent YELLOW YELLOW! they are just starting to look stained from all the starbucks. So please help me. i know everyone says "Crest whitening strips" but when i used it, it didnt whiten the bottom of my teeth..it didnt completely work for me. So are there any secrets without having to pay 400 bucks at the dental office!

Arm N' Hammer toothpaste. It has baking soda, very good for whitening teeth , and doesn't damage. ALSO. Cut down on the coffe, if you're looking for a fix of caffeine, then try Tea. Some tea's have loads more caffeine than coffee.
Reply:You should definitely try the whitining technic with the lights. The Dentist uses a light to whiten teeth and they become whiter after they do so. I've tried it before and it works! :)

They are designed to lighten the general color of the teeth. They work great for yellowing due to aging. If You have had a recent professional cleaning, try the tooth pastes designed for smokers, they have more abrasives.

Reply:Well dint drink the tea tea will stain worse than coffee I can remove coffee stains easier than tea when I clean teeth here are some tips for you QVC has these pens called Brite Smile Love them you can you them anywhere anytime and they taste good just dint eat or drink anything for 1/2 hr after you do this if you really need to what I do all the time with all my drinks I drink everything through a straw so my teeth stay white I also use Listerine pre rinse swish for 1 min a its foamy and whitens nice too the nice thing with the pens you can use them when you want in the car click your pen and go my whole family is using them and get your teeth cleaned on a regular 6 month basis I go 3 months but I am in the field so the perks and I like the feeling of cleaned teeth so this should work Good Luck

Arm N' Hammer toothpaste. It has baking soda, very good for whitening teeth , and doesn't damage. ALSO. Cut down on the coffe, if you're looking for a fix of caffeine, then try Tea. Some tea's have loads more caffeine than coffee.
Reply:You should definitely try the whitining technic with the lights. The Dentist uses a light to whiten teeth and they become whiter after they do so. I've tried it before and it works! :)

Reply:Well dint drink the tea tea will stain worse than coffee I can remove coffee stains easier than tea when I clean teeth here are some tips for you QVC has these pens called Brite Smile Love them you can you them anywhere anytime and they taste good just dint eat or drink anything for 1/2 hr after you do this if you really need to what I do all the time with all my drinks I drink everything through a straw so my teeth stay white I also use Listerine pre rinse swish for 1 min a its foamy and whitens nice too the nice thing with the pens you can use them when you want in the car click your pen and go my whole family is using them and get your teeth cleaned on a regular 6 month basis I go 3 months but I am in the field so the perks and I like the feeling of cleaned teeth so this should work Good Luck
