Why do people buy junk products to save a buck?

My wife keeps buying these Sharpie Markers (made in some unknown country - (Says Hengbao on it), and says they are a deal. They are crap to me. At first look, they look like the original thing, but when you write with them, they are watered down.

I got ballpoint pens that skip. Pencils - the tip breaks, takes forever to sharpen until the tip is good. Batteries for my MP3 player last an hour or two. Tooth brushes that last almost one brushing. Razors that pull the hair out.

Can you add to the list?

WHY DO PEOPLE BUY JUNK PRODUCTS?......TO SAVE A BUCK!!
Reply:This drives me nuts too. Generic food is flavorless. Cheap products of all kind always have some sacrifice in quality that make them not worth buying at all. It just seems to me that most people don't have the attention to detail required to notice that cheap products are not worth the money and it just makes more sense to buy the real thing.
Reply:From what I can tell, junk products are part of what keeps poor people poor. Poor people buy junk products because they think they can't afford quality. Turns out, the junk product has to be replaced two or three times before a quality product has to be replaced. In the end, the junk product costs more.

Poor people have to pay higher interest rates on car loans, home loans, and credit cards.

Poor people often can't afford to buy in large quantities, so places like warehouse stores, where quantity discounts are available, are often out of their budget.

Editorial Opinion: Wal Mart is the world's #1 seller of junk products and, in my book, the #1 exploiter of poor people. I shop anywhere else if at all possible.
