Why does the American media portray the British almost exclusively as buck-toothed aristocratic buffoons?

Because I have noticed it seems as if American men are a bit jelous of British men. I've noticed this because my husband is British and everytime I mention him these american guys start trying to speak with a british accent. And you know you can just tell when envy is in their eyes.

Why does the American media portray the British almost exclusively as buck-toothed aristocratic buffoons?
Same reason why they think everyone from Texas rides horses to work and wears a cowboy hat. Most Americans REALLY believe in stereotypes.
Reply:You're not?

Just kidding. No worries, they also portray you as slobbish yobs!
Reply:Broad stereotypes have been used in entertainment since Greek theater. Its an easy touchstone for the audience and provides much comic relief.
Reply:I don't know any Americans who believe that, but i do know that a lot of people absolutely love your accents!
Reply:Well, have you ever really noticed Tony Blairs teeth. There are a lot of Brits that are financially secure that just have bad teeth for whatever reason. I watch a lot of British shows and a lot of the actors are like that. But it is a stereotype just like all black people commit crimes.
Reply:Because it is geared to the lowest common denominator of intelligence. Plus,Americans like to imagine the English as an undesrving aristocracy. Movies about cockney types kind of confuse Americans.
